Welcome!

The world of native arts is beautiful in its diversity and creativity.  Explore the sections and learn about the artists, and if you are an artist, be sure to check out the resources for new opportunities.

This site is published by American Indian Con-temporary Arts (AICA) , with the generous support of the Ford Foundation.

AICA is a nonprofit native arts organization dedicated to the promo-tion of contemporary native arts.  Based in San Francisco, established in 1983, AICA had a gallery that was dot. commed (our four letter word) in 2000.  Therefore we have no public space at this time but we can be reached by email  at info.nativearts.us.

It is ironic that we are rebuilding the organization with the very movement that closed our doors.   Still by whatever means we can, we use,  to work to provide visibility and viablity to native artists, and to offer an understanding of the cultural contributions that native artists can and do make to our increasingly challenged world.

Resources

There are so many more collective resources, online and offline, available to the community today than in the past.  When AICA started in 1983, they were few and far between.

Today there are tribal museums, online galleries, websites, books, artists’ collectives, regional art shows, music and dance and theatre and storytelling festivals and so many other celebrations of native arts and culture.

Yet it is still hard for our artists to survive as artists, but they always follow their creative spirits and persist!  We hope this site will help artists gain visibility and educate the public to the vitality of native arts in the US.  This site lists some of the resources we have found online.  The links will lead you to many other sources you can enjoy and hope-fully visit if you are in their geographic region.

We will continue to expand this site and offer more information, particularly on visual artists, as it becomes available and as we learn to create and build our website and virtual community.
